💖 How to Start Verse Mapping for Bible Study (Free Canva Template!)

Hey beautiful friend! 🌸

If you’ve ever wanted to go deeper in your Bible study, but felt a little overwhelmed verse mapping is about to become your new best friend. Think of it like creating a beautiful roadmap through Scripture, where you break down the meaning of a verse, word by word, and let God speak to you in a personal way.

Whether you’re a busy mama, a college student, or just a woman craving more of God, verse mapping will change the way you connect with His Word. ✨

🌼 What Is Verse Mapping?

Verse mapping is a creative and intentional way to break down a Bible verse, using visuals, colors, and notes—to understand its deeper meaning. You don’t have to be an artist or a theologian. All you need is a willing heart and a pen. 💕 (Bonus: I made a cute printable Canva template to get you started, scroll to the bottom!)

📖 Step-by-Step: How to Do Verse Mapping

Here’s a breakdown of each section you’ll use in your verse map:

1. Verse & Reference

Write down the full verse you want to study (try using the NASB or your favorite translation). Make sure to include the book, chapter, and verse.

💡 Example: Romans 12:2 “And do not be conformed to this world…”

2. Multiple Translations

Copy the same verse in 2–3 different translations (like NASB, ESV, NLT, or AMP). This helps you catch different shades of meaning.

✍️ Optional: Highlight the key words that differ!

3. Keywords & Definitions

Choose 2–5 keywords from the verse. Look them up in a Bible dictionary or Strong’s Concordance and write down their original meanings (Greek or Hebrew).

💕 Example: “Transformed” in Greek is metamorphoō, meaning “to change form.”

4. Context

What’s happening in the chapter? Who is speaking? Who are they speaking to? What happened before and after this verse?

📚 Quick tip: Read the whole chapter or a few verses before and after for better context.

5. Cross References

List other verses in the Bible that relate to the one you’re studying. These help connect the dots and give a fuller picture of God’s truth.

🧡 Use a study Bible or Bible app like YouVersion or BlueLetterBible.org.

6. Personal Reflection

Write out what God is saying to you through this verse. Ask:

How does this apply to my life? What is God teaching me here? Is there something I need to change, believe, or do?

7. Prayer

End with a short prayer asking God to help you live out what you’ve learned. It can be simple and sweet.

🙏 “Lord, help me to renew my mind daily and live set apart for You…”

🪷 Tips to Make it Fun

I’m Brittney

I am a 36-year-old survivor, artist, writer, and advocate who has walked through some of life’s darkest valleys and emerged with a radiant, unshakeable faith. Having endured childhood sexual trauma, decades of domestic violence, temporary paralysis, a coma, memory loss, and the heartbreaking loss of custody of my children as the result. I have had to rebuild my life piece by piece, hand in hand with the Lord. I have had to trust Him to protect, heal and reunite my family. I have had to trust Him to put me back together and turn my trauma into a testimony that honors Him and helps women who are where I have been. Now a two-time cancer and heart failure survivor, I use my story to illuminate hope for others, reminding women that God is still a God of miracles, restoration, and new beginnings. Through my blog, I combine faith, creativity, and lived experience to uplift survivors of abuse, helping them rediscover gratitude, reclaim their identity, and step boldly into the healing God has promised.
